There was a small amount of surface rust on the plate at the bottom of the compression post. I think some water may be leaking down the post, another job for another day I thought it best to treat the area before it gets out of hand.
Hamerite rust treatment was my chosen weapon, after much wire brushing and rubbing, several layers of rust killer gel were applied, seemed to work, followed by 2 layers of anti-rust primer and a metallic green hamerite gloss finish. Looks lovely now! | ||||||||||||||||
